Attic Insulation Top-Up
An attic insulation top-up builds a new layer of loose fill over the old one, bringing a shallow attic floor up to R-60.
How a top-up worksOntario's attic insulation rebate is one stream of Home Renovation Savings, a program Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas run together, and it refunds a share of the bill once an attic reaches R-50 or more.
These attic insulation rebate details were last checked in October 2026. The program is currently scheduled to end November 30, 2026. That date was already moved once, from the same day in 2025, and could move again. Money is paid in the order applications arrive, so a late file risks an empty pot. Amounts and rules can shift without notice, so read homerenovationsavings.ca before committing to anything.
One route offers an attic insulation rebate without any energy assessment, and the amount is set by how much insulation sits in the attic before work begins.
Starting at R-12 or below and finishing at R-50 earns as much as $1,250.
Starting above R-12 but no higher than R-25 and finishing at R-50 earns as much as $1,000.
Starting above R-25 but no higher than R-35 and finishing at R-50 earns as much as $800.
A cathedral ceiling or flat roof has its own pair of attic insulation rebate amounts: $750 when a ceiling at R-25 or under reaches R-28, and $650 when one at R-12 or under reaches R-20.
Two conditions sit on every tier. The attic insulation rebate can never exceed 50 per cent of the after-tax bill, and the whole reachable attic has to be done, not a cold bedroom's share of it.
Payment on this route goes only to jobs by installers already on the program's roster, and the roster stopped taking new names. As of October 2026 the six names on it are Solidcare, Home Depot, Great Northern Insulation, George Kent, EcoComfort and Brand Insulation. Look the roster up on the program website before you plan around it, because the installer, not the homeowner, files the paperwork on this route.
The second route opens with a home energy evaluation by a registered energy advisor. From that report you finish two or more upgrades with whichever contractor you choose, and the same advisor then returns for a second visit.
The assessment route pays a bigger attic insulation rebate at each step: up to $1,500 for an attic that begins at R-12 or lower, $1,200 where it starts between R-13 and R-25, and $900 where it starts between R-26 and R-35, all finishing at R-50. A cathedral ceiling or flat roof earns up to $780 here. It also puts money toward both evaluations and adds more for further upgrades, air sealing among them.
If the roster matters to you, this is the route that removes it from the picture. Any contractor's invoice counts once the advisor confirms the before and after numbers.
The applicant has to be the owner. Households that buy natural gas from Enbridge and heat mainly with a gas furnace or boiler can apply, provided the Enbridge account is active. So can grid-connected homes whose main heat is electric, propane, oil or wood. That last group matters in rural Caledon, where many homes have no gas line.
Eligible buildings include detached houses, semi-detached houses, row houses, townhouses that are not stacked, and mobile homes on a permanent base. Rental owners may apply as landlords, and some seasonal cottages make the cut.
Three things close the door: a stacked townhouse, a house you have occupied for half a year or less, and any address that Enbridge, Save on Energy or another Ontario program has already paid an attic rebate on.
Each attic insulation rebate turns on two numbers: the R-value before the job and the R-value after it. Our inspection photos date-stamp the starting depth, and the invoice states the final R-value and how many square feet were done. Attic air sealing gets its own line, in case the assessment route counts it as an upgrade.
Phone (289) 210-8354 to learn the R-value of your attic today, before any attic insulation rebate form is filled in. Everything else we do is on the Caledon attic insulation home page.
Booking two of these on the same day spares you a second round of setup.

How a top-up works
Blown-in cellulose insulation lays one continuous blanket across the attic floor and reaches into every corner, in new and old houses alike.
How cellulose is blown in
Century home attic insulation starts with a longer inspection, because a house past its hundredth birthday hides problems a newer home never has.
Details for older homes
Attic insulation removal clears away fill that is soaked, mouldy, flattened or fouled by mice, squirrels or raccoons, leaving a clean attic ready for sealing and new material.
How old fill is removed
Attic air sealing plugs the small openings where heated room air escapes upward through the ceiling, and it opens every job we take on.
Where the leaks get sealed
Ice dam prevention is most effective from inside the attic, where the goal is a roof deck too cold to melt the snow sitting on it.
How ice dams are stopped
Cathedral ceiling insulation goes into the thin space above an angled ceiling, where there is no open attic floor to work from.
Options for sloped ceilings
Attic insulation cost comes down to four things: attic floor area, the depth already there, the material chosen and whether old insulation must come out first.
