Frequently Asked Questions

Cellulose attic insulation is usually the better choice. It is heavier per cubic foot, it fills the irregular bays of an older attic well, and it slows air drifting through the layer. Blown fiberglass weighs less and suits ceilings that cannot carry much load.

Leave it untouched until a lab has tested a sample. When asbestos is found, an abatement contractor clears the vermiculite, and attic insulation is installed afterward.

Air leaks, not thin attic insulation, are the most common cause. Heated air slips out around light fixtures, pipes and wall tops, and loose fill does nothing to stop air that is moving. Thin or settled fill makes it worse.

A house with about 1,200 square feet of attic usually takes one day, sealing and baffles included. Older homes that need more sealing can take two.

Yes, often the largest difference of all. Old farmhouses can leak several times more air through the attic than newer houses, especially where balloon-framed walls open into it, and closing those paths brings the biggest gain in comfort.

Heat leaking up from the house warms the roof and melts the snow, which freezes again over the colder eaves. Sealing, more attic insulation and open soffit vents keep the whole roof cold.

In many cases it can. Cellulose can be dense-packed into each rafter space through coin-sized holes that get patched later, and the free inspection tells us whether the spaces are clear enough.

It rests on attic floor area, existing depth, the material and any removal. Typical Ontario ranges are on our cost page, and your written estimate gives the exact number.

Yes. Without an assessment, Home Renovation Savings pays up to $1,250 for raising an attic from R-12 or lower to R-50, but only on jobs by installers on its roster, and that roster is no longer open. Its assessment route leaves the choice of contractor to you. As of our October 2026 check, the program is currently scheduled to end on November 30, 2026, and the full details are on our attic insulation rebate page.

Yes. Our crews cover all of Caledon, including Caledon East, Caledon Village, Inglewood, Alton, Palgrave, Mono Mills, Cheltenham and Belfountain.

Attic Insulation Rebate

Ontario's attic insulation rebate is one stream of Home Renovation Savings, a program Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas run together, and it refunds a share of the bill once an attic reaches R-50 or more.

Attic Insulation Cost

Attic insulation cost comes down to four things: attic floor area, the depth already there, the material chosen and whether old insulation must come out first.
